Albert Renger-Patzsch
Renger-Patzsch was a photographer from Germany who worked with the art movement called "New Objectivity" in the 1920s. Renger-Patzsch loved photography, he once wrote "There must be an increase in the joy one takes in an object, and the photographer should be fully conscious of the splendid fidelity of reproduction made possible by his technique". He worked with a wide range of different subjects through out the course of his life, which includes the following: pictures of traditional craftsmen, early wildlife and botanical studies , studies of mechanical equipment, still life, landscape and architectural studies.
In 1928, Renger-Patzsch published a collection of pictures called "The World is Beautiful", this is a collection of one hundred photographs, these photographs were representative of how everything in life can be made to look beautiful, he wanted people to see the beauty of things for not just what they are but for the actual beauty.

Analysis
Both images are similar in the sense that they are both of man made objects, however because of the difference in the shapes presented by the two the over all feel that i get is very different. The first one presents a more sharp and geometric shape whereas the second has softer more rounded shapes. I Think that because of the shapes the feelings and mood portrayed are very different. When i look at the one of the glass i feel; relaxed and peaceful but i feel the opposite from the other. I feel that this is why i prefer the image of the glass. I prefer to look at things that make me feel calm.

Both of the images on the left side are beautiful however due to personal preference i i find that the one consisting of the glass and shadows is more pleasing to my eye. I feel as though even thought this image is of something 'man made' the shadows produced by it are very organic and smooth. This image is both repetitive and not at the same time. The lines resemble each other but each line is also unique to the glass. It is very different but similar to the picture beside it.
The plumbing is bursting with depth. It's already common sense that pipes are not 2D shapes but his image has used lighting and angles to really bring out the metal and make it look even more 3D and man made that we would be able to see daily. The source of the light comes from the left side of the image as that is where the light shines the most. This image has also been cropped to make the grey spaces at both sides of the pipes almost equal. This adds to the symmetry of the image making it appear more geometric and man made.(continue reading on the left) |
My response: The world is beautiful.
The following series of images was taken on The Cannon EOS 550D using the lens 18-15mm. I plan on taking over 100 images and editing them down on Photoshop.
